Gończy Polski puppies: questions for your breeder visit

Before choosing a Gończy Polski puppy, I would use a breeder visit to discuss health, documents, hunting work and your future everyday life together. Here I share the questions that matter to me. During a visit, you can meet Caya and me, see her at home and look through her available documents.

Will a puppy fit into your everyday life?

What matters most to me is that future puppy owners make time for their dog and welcome it as part of the family. I therefore consider it important to think before the puppy arrives about how everyday life together and training will fit around work and other commitments.

For hunters and those preparing to become hunters, access to hunting ground for training is a great advantage. Tell me about your hunting opportunities and experience, and what you would like to achieve with your dog. That lets us talk specifically about your future together. My guide to Gończy Polski costs, equipment and time commitment can help you think through those preparations.

As the day of collection approaches, my checklist for bringing a puppy home will help you prepare your home, the essentials and the journey.

Meet Caya and me in person

A visit begins with us getting to know one another as people. You can meet Caya at home and look through her documents. You will have the opportunity to ask your own questions and form an impression for yourself.

I would pay attention to how a dog interacts with people and other dogs, and how it behaves at home. A visit shows only part of the picture. That is why I think observation and conversation about everyday life belong together. For an initial overview, see Caya’s profile and documents.

Health comes first for me

If I were choosing a puppy myself, the health of the puppy and its parents would be my first priority. Next, I would look more closely at hunting tests, interactions with people and other dogs, and behaviour at home.

Ask about the available health information and the parents’ documents. It is also worth asking which hunting tests they have passed and what work they actually do. I care more about you understanding the answers than knowing lots of technical terms.

Documents to discuss

A puppy from my kennel leaves with an EU pet passport and an original VDH pedigree. The puppies are vaccinated and purebred. Please feel free to ask what information the documents contain.

You can look through Caya’s available documents during your visit. Take your time and ask if anything is unclear. Paperwork alone cannot answer every question about living with a dog.

Your questions are welcome

You can ask me anything you would like to know before deciding. You do not need a finished training plan or years of experience. An open conversation about expectations and practical possibilities is a good starting point.

To prepare, you could make a note of questions such as these:

  • How does the breeder describe the dogs at home, with people and with other dogs?
  • Which health information and records of hunting tests can I see?
  • Which documents will I receive when my puppy comes home?
  • How do my hunting goals relate to my opportunities for training?
  • Which questions do I still have after the visit?

How people and puppies find one another

I do not match puppies with their future owners through a rigid selection procedure. What matters to me is that people and puppies find one another. During a visit, it often becomes clear which puppy particularly appeals to the prospective owners.

That personal feeling matters to me. At the same time, it is worth keeping your expectations and future everyday life in mind. Take your time and talk about anything that concerns you. Getting to know one another well depends on listening to each other.
