GOŃCZY POLSKI VOM PAUELSGRABEN
The kennel
I am Lucas Müller. I live in Rosperwenda in the southern Harz with my wife and my Gończy Polski. My “vom Pauelsgraben” kennel has existed since 2019.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN
From a family hunting tradition to Dana
Hunting and dogs have naturally belonged together in our family for many years. My father has hunted since his youth and bred German Hunting Terriers and Austrian Black and Tan Hounds for a long time. As he felt their hunting performance was increasingly falling short of his expectations, he came across the Gończy Polski in a hunting magazine in the summer of 2015. This Polish scent hound, which I had barely known until then, immediately caught my interest.
I also wanted a dog of my own at the time. My father’s answer was clear: “You can only have a hunting dog if you have a hunting licence.” That sentence has stayed with me ever since. Through personal contacts, I was able to bring a puppy from Poland in 2016. There was no choice of puppies available then, and that was how Flinta Cnotliwy Nos, my Dana, came to me.
I began training for my hunting licence in October 2016 and received it in May 2017. With Dana, I gained hunting experience and became increasingly convinced that this special breed suited my life and my way of hunting. In 2019, that led to the founding of “vom Pauelsgraben”, breeding for hunting performance.

HOME & KENNEL NAME
At home in Rosperwenda in the southern Harz
My home is Rosperwenda in the southern Harz. Woodland, fields and hunting grounds are right on our doorstep. I hunt roe deer, wild boar and red deer, and regularly travel around the region during the driven-hunt season.
Why “vom Pauelsgraben”?
The Pauelsgraben lies to the east, between my hunting ground near Rosperwenda and the neighbouring ground near Roßla. Red deer, roe deer and wild boar are regularly found there. It quickly became clear to me that my kennel name should carry exactly this connection to my home and hunting grounds.
My wife and I
My dogs are an integral part of my everyday life. When I raise a litter, my wife and I care for the puppies together and make time for every one of them. My wife’s family and my own family also help.
I also want to get to know the people my puppies will live with. In a personal conversation, we discuss your everyday life, your hunting plans and your questions for me. You are welcome to get in touch. My guide to visiting a breeder explains which questions and documents can help when we meet.
TRAINING & BREEDING FRAMEWORK
The foundations of my breeding
Before my first litter, I completed three specialist modules at the VDH Academy in December 2018, covering genetics, dog breeding and breeding practice. The kennel name is protected through the VDH and FCI. The complete supporting documents can be viewed below.

What matters to me in breeding
For every mating, I consider the dogs‘ health results, hunting performance and temperament. When raising puppies, I focus on the following:
01 · HUNTING PERFORMANCE
Encouraging natural ability
The puppies are introduced to different surfaces, terrain, environmental stimuli and their first hunting impressions in ways appropriate to their age.
02 · HEALTH
Taking responsibility
Health and carefully considered breeding plans are the foundation of every mating. My dogs‘ welfare comes first.
03 · TEMPERAMENT
Building a relationship
I want independent hunting dogs that are also attentive to their handler, steady under pressure and closely bonded with their family in everyday life.
Raising puppies with calm, trust and good judgement
In the first weeks of life, I want to give every puppy the best start I can: a secure place in the family, different surfaces and everyday situations, development suited to their age and early introductions to hunting. The aim is to build stable foundations, not to achieve peak performance as early as possible.
My most important advice to new puppy owners is: Let the young dog be a dog first. Training takes discipline, patience and calm, but above all, trust in your own dog. You can achieve a great deal together when support and expectations match the dog’s stage of development.
Breeding within a regulated framework
My breeding is governed by VDH regulations. This includes breeding supervision, kennel inspections and litter inspections. Information on my dogs‘ health, tests and ancestry is provided on the individual dog and litter pages.
Meet my dogs
On the dog profiles, I describe their origins, temperament, hunting work, health and the tests I have taken with them.
